Smart Cylinder Tips and Advice

How best to set up your Smart Cylinder

Low volume hot water users;
  • This Profile and Saving tutorial is aimed at lower users of hot water Click Here
  • Make sure all hot water pipes and valves are lagged (insulated) and older cylinders are 'wrapped'
  • Make sure you keep looking (or at least glancing) at the Hot Water Fuel Gauge on the home screen of the Colour Display before and after you use hot water. This will help you understand your hot water use and will often lead to reduction in hot water use (conscious or subconscious - this really works!)
  • High volume hot water users;
    • Use low cost off-peak power tariffs - these can be ½ price ! and work best for higher users
    • With Time of Use tariff (variable time dependent tariff rate) it is possible to use a single element cylinder and set the profile to match the best times
    • With Night Rate tariff (power is only available on cylinder feed for certain times of the day e.g. 11:00 pm to 7:00 am), a dual element cylinder is required

    • Renewable Energy;
      • Solar Hot Water; set profiles lower during daylight hours to minimize electric boost heating and give solar best chance to heat the cylinder
      • Solar Electric (without diverter) set profiles high during peak sunshine hours. For more information Click Here
